The effect of probiotic on growth performance and hematological indices in female rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) broodstock

Abstract

This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of probiotic on growth performance and hematological indices in female rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) broodstock. For this purpose, broodstock with an average initial weight of 2267.41 ± 54.86 g (mean ± S.E.M) were fed for 8 weeks with diets containing 0, 0.5, 1 and 2 g.kg^-1Bio-Aqua probiotic. At the end of the experimental period, growth parameters and blood parameters were evaluated. According to the results, a significant difference was observed in average final weight between 2 g.kg^-1treatment and control group (P<0.05). Moreover, the specific growth rate and body weight increase in 2 g.kg^-1treatment showed significant differences compared to control and 0.5 g.kg^-1treatments (P<0.05). A significant difference in feed conversion ratio was observed among 2 g.kg^-1treatment and other treatments (P<0.05). The condition factor was not significantly different among treatments (P>0.05). Furthermore, no significant differences were observed in hematological indices among the treatments (P>0.05). The results of present study demonstrated a considerable ability of Bio-Aqua probiotic to influence on growth parameters in rainbow trout broodstock. Accordingly, the Bio-Aqua probiotic in 2 g.kg^-1was suggested as the best level to use in feed of rainbow trout broodstock.
