Abstract

We used 50 specimens of Alosa braschnikowi (A. brschnikowi) to study the growth effect on Gill raker morphology. Gill rakers counted as 26-47 which increased in relation to increase in TL (P<0.05). Gill raker lengths and the length:width ratio decreased with a high coefficient of relationships (R2=0.818 and 0.634 subsequently) regarding the increase of TL. The proportion of gill raker length to gill filament length decreased with increased TL. Results indicated selective filter feeding behavior of A. braschnikowi and variation of gill raker morphological characteristics with TL increase during growth.
