مطالعه حاضر با هدف بررسی عادات غذایی ماهی یال اسبی سر بزرگ (Trichiurus lepturus) در آب های سواحل مکران طی مدت یک سال از پاییز 1400 تا تابستان 1401 انجام شد. نمونه برداری به‌ صورت فصلی  و با کالبد شکافی تعداد 120 نمونه ماهی صید شده در مکان های تخلیه صید واقع در  سه صیدگاه چابهار، رمین و بریس در سواحل مکران محدوده  استان سیستان و بلوچستان انجام شد. دامنه طول کل و وزن ماهی ها به ترتیب بین 21.33 ± 73.53 سانتی متر و 270.7 ± 501.72 گرم متغیر بود. نتایج بررسی ترکیب غذایی نشان داد که رژیم غذایی این گونه غالباً شامل ماهیان نیمه هضم شده بوده و طعمه‌های اصلی شناسایی‌شده نیز شامل ماهیان شوریده، موتو، حسون، میگو،  خرچنگ، اسکوئید و هشت‌پا بودند. نتایج شاخص های تغذیه ای نشان داد که این ماهی با دارا بودن میانگین طول نسبی روده 0.52 سانتی متر گوشتخوار بوده و عمدتا از ماهیان تغذیه می نماید. نتایج شاخص معدی-بدنی نشان داد که این گونه ماهی در فصل پائیز بالاترین و در فصل تابستان کمترین سطح تغذیه را دارد. بالاترین شاخص وضعیت در فصل پائیز با مقدار 0.15±1.7 و پائین ترین آن در تابستان با مقدار 0.9±1.1 محاسبه شد که نشان داد  این گونه در آب‌های ساحلی چابهار دارای شرایط زیستی خوب و مناسبی می­باشد. نتایج مربوط به شاخص عددی ترکیب غذا در فصول مختلف نشان داد که طعمه ماهیان نیمه هضم شده نسبت به نرم تنان و سخت پوستان دارای شاخص عددی و اهمیت بیشتری هستند. در مجموع ماهی یال اسبی سربزرگ از نظر تغذیه¬ای گوشتخوار و نسبتا پرخور و وضعیت آن از لحاظ چاقی خوب بوده و در آب‌های ساحلی مکران از نظر وضعیت تغذیه‌ای و زیستی در شرایط مناسبی قرار دارد و عمدتاً از ماهیان کوچک و در درجه بعدی از سخت‌پوستان و نرم‌تنان تغذیه می‌کند.
