Abstract:   (3927 Views)
In the present study, the effect of microalgae Scenedesmus obliquus in reducing pollution of Gomishan shrimp farms was examined. Toxic compounds of nitrate and phosphate are produced in shrimp farms, particularly in intensive culture systems. First the above mentioned microalgae species was prepared and purified from shrimp farms, and then. the waste water of these farms were supplied and physico-chemical factors of water, phosphate and nitrate were measured before and after exposure to microalgae, every 24 hour during10 days. The biological parameters and the algal production parameters including density, chlorophyll A and biomass were also measured. The results showed that the dry matter and chlorophyll A were significantly increased (p≤0.01) and the levels of phosphate P and PO4 were significantly decreased (p≤0.05) during the experiment period,  but, no significant effects were observed in  nitrate N and NO3 (p≥0.05). On the other hand, the number of algal cells and the specific growth rate showed significant changes (p≤0.05). The results showed a high capacity for microalgae S. obliquus in inhabitancy and removal of phosphate compounds from waste water of shrimp nurture farms.
