Comparative effects of two commercial prebiotics of liquid Celmanax and A-Max Ultra on growth performance, feed utilization and improvement of stress resistance in carps fry (Cyprinus carpio L. 1758)

This experiment was conducted to compare and evaluate the effects of two commercial prebiotics, Celmanax liquid and A-Max Ultra on growth performance, feed efficiency and resistance to challenge tests of high ammonia (5 mg/l), high temperature (40 C°), acidic (pH = 2) and basic (pH = 12) challenges in Cyprinus carpio fry. A total number of 1080 individuals of carp fry was obtained and transferred to the laboratory. After 7 days for adaptation to the new conditions and feeding with basal diet, fry with average initial weight of 1.30±0.25g and length of 2.54±0.33 cm were randomly divided into 8 treatments and a control group, each with three triplicates in 27 polyethylene circular tanks (n = 40 per tank). The Celmanax liquid was supplemented at 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1 cc.kg-1 and A-Max Ultra was supplemented at 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1g.kg-1 in the diet. Fish were fed for 60 days. The results showed that diets supplemented with Celmanax liquid significantly improved performance of growth and feed efficiency of carp fries (p<0.05), while, A-Max Ultra caused more resistance against environmental stresses (p<0.05). In conclusion, the results of this study indicated that the use of A-Max Ultra and Celmanax liquid prebiotics had a positive effects on growth parameters, feed efficiency and resistance time to the challenge test in C. carpio fry.
